Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono is poised to make history as it prepares to graduate its largest cohort ever. On Thursday, July 4th, a total of 1,524 students will receive their degrees, marking a significant milestone for the institution. Among the graduates, 860 are female, representing 56% of the class, while 664 are male, accounting for 44%. Notably, 49 students will graduate with first-class honors.
Dr. David Mugawe, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, attributed the record-breaking number of graduates to the university’s supportive learning environment. “This is our 26th graduation, the first of four ceremonies we hold annually,” Dr. Mugawe explained. “The subsequent graduations will take place in October, Mbale, and Kabale.”
Reflecting on UCU’s growth, Dr. Mugawe described the upcoming event as a historic achievement. “Our first intake had about 200 students. Today, we’re graduating over 1,500. This remarkable growth underscores the university’s strength and progress,” he said.
Among the academic standouts, 24 first-class degrees were awarded to female students, while 25 went to male students. Diana Nansubuga, with a GPA of 4.80 in Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, was named the Best Female Student and Best Science Student. Timothy Kiarbo, the Best Male Student and Overall Best Performer, achieved a GPA of 4.96 in Bachelor of Procurement and Logistics Management and was also recognized as the top Humanities and Arts student.
Dr. Mugawe commended the first-class graduates for their exceptional dedication, emphasizing that their achievements reflect UCU’s commitment to academic excellence. “We are proud of our students and their accomplishments, which highlight the university’s dedication to fostering success,” he added.
This graduation ceremony not only celebrates the students’ hard work but also highlights the university’s ongoing efforts to provide quality education and support its diverse student body.
