Spurs Kicks Off Fresh Chapter Under Thomas Frank
As Tottenham Hotspur prepares for the new season, manager Thomas Frank is making his mark with a philosophy centered on unity and openness. Just weeks after replacing Ange Postecoglou, Frank’s decision to host a first-team meeting that included not only coaching staff but also non-technical workers like caterers and cleaners has already highlighted his commitment to inclusivity. This approach, reminiscent of his tenure at Brentford, aims to foster a sense of shared purpose across the club.
Frank’s management style is described as “glass half-full,” prioritizing emotional availability and transparency. Unlike his predecessor, who often observed training sessions from the sidelines, Frank is deeply involved in daily drills, taking a hands-on role while delegating responsibilities to his team. His emphasis on honesty and addressing issues directly has set a distinct tone from the previous regime.
However, the transition has not been without hurdles. Key players like Dominic Solanke, Destiny Udogie, and Dejan Kulusevski have missed much of the pre-season, while captain Heung-min Son’s departure to LAFC and James Maddison’s ACL injury have left gaps. Frank’s influence on transfers is evident, with summer signings like Mohammed Kudus already showing promise and interest in players such as Savinho and Eberechi Eze. Yet, the failed pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White due to legal complications has sparked frustration among fans.
Despite financial backing from owners Enic, Spurs have only secured Kudus and Joao Palhinha so far. Some supporters remain skeptical about the squad’s depth, raising concerns about underinvestment. Frank, though, remains optimistic, stating the club is “definitely in the market” to build a stronger team. “There are a few things in the air, shall we say, along the way,” he noted, hinting at ongoing negotiations.
