NEWCASTLE United has responded decisively to Alexander Isak’s explosive social media statement, refusing to sell the striker despite his claims of a fractured relationship with the club.

The 25-year-old forward, who was omitted from the first-team squad this season after pushing for a summer exit, publicly addressed his situation for the first time. Isak stated that leaving St James’ Park would be “in the best interests of everyone,” citing broken promises and a loss of trust with the club’s hierarchy.

In a counter-statement, Newcastle clarified that Isak’s contract—worth £130,000 weekly with four years remaining—has not been a barrier to negotiations. However, they denied ever guaranteeing a departure pathway, asserting: “We are clear that Alex remains under contract and no commitment has ever been made by club officials to permit his exit this summer.”

Isak’s frustration reportedly stems from an unfulfilled promise of a pay rise allegedly made by former co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi. Ex-sporting director Paul Mitchell had paused talks, prioritizing contract stability, though Newcastle later expressed willingness to surpass their £150,000-a-week salary cap to reward the Sweden international.

Liverpool, however, remains keen on a move, with sources indicating a potential £130million bid could follow an earlier rejected offer of £110m. The Reds have also targeted Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi as part of a summer overhaul. Newcastle’s response, though, signals a refusal to bend unless financial or strategic conditions shift.

The club added: “We want to keep our best players but acknowledge their aspirations. That said, decisions must prioritize Newcastle United, our supporters, and the team’s long-term goals.”

Isak’s statement further revealed his absence from the PFA Awards ceremony, where he was named in the 2024-25 Premier League Team of the Season, noting it “didn’t feel right” to attend amid ongoing tensions.

As the transfer window closes, the standoff looms large. While Liverpool eyes a blockbuster deal, Newcastle’s stance leaves Isak’s future uncertain—a rift that could reshape both the club and player’s trajectories.
