Newcastle United has intensified its pursuit of RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, submitting an improved £79m offer in an attempt to secure his services ahead of Manchester United.
The Magpies, eager to replace departing striker Alexander Isak, have identified Sesko as a prime target. Newcastle initially had a club-record bid of £70m rejected but have since increased their offer to approximately £79m, including £8.4m in add-ons, after receiving encouraging signals from the Slovenian international.
Sesko, who contributed 21 goals and six assists last season, is also a target for Manchester United as manager Ruben Amorim looks to overhaul his attack. However, Newcastle is pushing for a swift resolution, hoping to finalize the deal within the next 24 hours to either secure Sesko's signature or explore alternative options.
RB Leipzig has been cooperative, with the club reportedly preferring a move to Newcastle at this stage. This preference was hinted at by Leipzig's decision to omit Sesko from their matchday squad for a pre-season friendly against Atalanta due to the significant interest from Newcastle and Manchester United.
Newcastle's interest in Sesko is part of a broader transfer strategy that includes plans to sell Isak to Liverpool for a potential British transfer record fee. The proceeds from Isak's sale could be used to pursue Brentford's Yoane Wissa.
Meanwhile, Manchester United's interest in Sesko could be complicated by the need to offload striker Rasmus Hojlund, who was signed for £72m. United's manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly planning a new-look attack featuring Sesko, along with new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
The race for Sesko's signature is heating up, with Newcastle's aggressive approach putting pressure on both the player and RB Leipzig to make a decision swiftly.
