The 21-year-old middleweight faced off against Rami Kiwan of Bulgaria at the M&S Arena in Liverpool on Friday, but the judges awarded all five rounds to his opponent, leaving Makin with the bronze.
Meanwhile, Makin's fellow Liverpudlian, Odel Kamara, continued his impressive run in the men's 70kg division. Kamara is already guaranteed a bronze medal and will take on Torekhan Sabyrkhan of Kazakhstan in the semi-finals on Saturday after defeating Mongolia's Byamba-Erdene Otgonbaatar earlier in the tournament.
Teagn Stott also secured a place in the semi-finals in the men's 85kg category after a dominant second-round victory over Semion Boldirev of Bulgaria. Stott will now face Ukrainian Danylo Zhasan in what promises to be an intense clash.
On the women's side, Chantelle Reid advanced to the semi-finals of the 70kg division after defeating Mengge Zhang, setting up a showdown with Natalya Bogdanova of Russia. Additionally, Emily Asquith earned her spot in the last four of the women's 80kg division by defeating Turkey's Elif Guneri, and she will now face India's Pooja Rani in the semi-finals.
