The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has announced the appointment of Miguel Gamondi as the new head coach of the national football team, the Taifa Stars, ahead of the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This comes after the mutual agreement to terminate the contract of the previous coach, Hemed Suleiman, known as 'Morocco.'

In an official statement signed by TFF's PR and Communications officer, Cliford Mario Ndimbo, the federation confirmed the decision to part ways with Suleiman. "The TFF has terminated the contract of the Taifa Stars' head coach, Hemed Suleiman 'Morocco,' following a mutual agreement between the federation and the coach," the statement read.

Gamondi, who currently leads Singida Black Stars, will take over as the acting head coach for the Taifa Stars. The TFF has already held discussions with Singida Black Stars regarding Gamondi's new responsibilities.

"The new coach will guide the Taifa Stars in the AFCON Finals scheduled to commence in Morocco this December," the statement added.

Tanzania is set to compete against Uganda, Nigeria, and Tunisia in Group B of the tournament. Gamondi's notable achievement includes leading Singida Black Stars to their first-ever CAF interclub group stage qualification. He also served as the coach of Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho during his time at Kampala City Council Authority FC.

The changes come as part of Tanzania's preparations for the upcoming AFCON, with the team aiming to build on their previous performances under new leadership.
