SC Villa has pulled off a major upset in the 2025 FUFA Super 8 tournament, eliminating defending champions BUL FC to reach the final. The semifinal match, played at the MTN-Omondi Stadium, ended in a 1-1 draw after normal time, but the Jogoos prevailed 5-4 in the penalty shootout.
The game got off to a surprising start, with BUL taking the lead in the 4th minute. SC Villa defender Arnold Odong accidentally directed Hillary Onek's cross into his own net, giving BUL an early advantage.
However, SC Villa managed to level the score in the 75th minute, thanks to Najib Yiga's free kick, which was deflected into the net by BUL's Sowedi Luwenda. The goal sent the match into a nervous penalty shootout, where SC Villa's goalkeeper David Lukwago proved to be the hero.
Lukwago saved two crucial penalties, denying Ibrahim Mugulusi and Bakali Magunda, while Frank Mulimi was the only SC Villa player to miss from the spot, firing wide of Farouk Yawe's goal.
With this win, SC Villa has secured a spot in the 2025 FUFA Super 8 final, where they will face NEC FC on Wednesday at the FUFA-Kadiba Stadium. Meanwhile, BUL will contend for third place against URA FC on the same day.
