Paris St-Germain head coach Luis Enrique is set to undergo surgery following a cycling accident that left him with a fractured collarbone. The incident occurred on Friday, and PSG has expressed its full support for the 55-year-old as he recovers.
Enrique, who guided PSG to their first-ever Champions League title last season, was in the dugout as recently as August 30 when the Parisians defeated Toulouse 6-3 in Ligue 1. Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves scored a hat-trick in that match, which was the club’s last before the international break.
PSG’s next league fixture is scheduled for September 14 against Lens, followed by their Champions League title defense against Atalanta on September 17. Enrique, who joined PSG in 2023, has secured two league titles, two French Cups, and the Champions League, also leading the team to the FIFA Club World Cup final in July.
The club has assured fans that further updates on Enrique’s condition will be shared in due course. With the coach’s absence during recovery, the team’s upcoming matches will be closely watched as they navigate the start of their Ligue 1 and Champions League campaigns.
Enrique has had a successful managerial career, previously leading Roma, Celta Vigo, Barcelona, and the Spanish national team before joining PSG. His absence will be felt, but the club remains optimistic about his swift return.
