Lennox Lewis Predicts Daniel Dubois Will Defeat Oleksandr Usyk: "He's the Man to Do It"

Boxing icon Lennox Lewis has thrown his support behind Daniel Dubois, claiming the British heavyweight is the fighter capable of dethroning undefeated champion Oleksandr Usyk. Usyk, who has remained unbeaten in his professional career, has dominated both the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions, securing victories over top names like Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

Usyk’s rise to the top includes a flawless transition to heavyweight, highlighted by wins over Derek Chisora, Joshua, and Fury. His most recent triumph came in a rematch with Fury in December 2024, which led to Fury’s retirement. Despite his dominance, Lewis believes Dubois has the tools to end Usyk’s reign.

Dubois, who suffered a knockout loss to Usyk in August 2023, has since rebounded with three consecutive victories over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Joshua. On July 19, he will face Usyk again at Wembley Stadium, this time with the IBF title on the line. Speaking to Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, Lewis expressed his confidence in Dubois’s ability to succeed.

“I’m thinking he’s ready,” Lewis said. “He’s been through the trials and tribulations. He’s the king slayer. He’s got the power. He’s been there before. He was just there, he knocked [Usyk] down, so he knows what he needs to do. It would be great for him to do it, another man from Great Britain. It’s not an easy task, but he’s definitely the man that can go through with it.”

Lewis praised Dubois’s preparation and determination, stating, “He’s done the work. He’s gone through the pedigree. He’s a certified world champion, and I think he has big hopes of doing it. He’s going to do it.”

Dubois’s quest to defeat Usyk has also garnered support from other British boxing legends, including former heavyweight champion Frank Bruno. As the highly anticipated bout approaches, all eyes will be on Wembley Stadium to see if Dubois can deliver on Lewis’s bold prediction.
