Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Alexander Isak is available to make his debut against Atletico Madrid in their Champions League opener on Wednesday. The Swedish striker, who joined Liverpool for a British-record £125m, has been training with the team and is part of the squad.

Although Slot did not confirm whether Isak will start or come off the bench, he emphasized that the 25-year-old will not play the full 90 minutes. "There is definitely a chance because he is in the squad," Slot said. "Then there's a chance to play, but I can say it's 100 per cent sure that he will not play 90 minutes. But he's part of the squad."

Isak's biggest challenge, according to Slot, is getting fit after missing out on four months of proper team sessions due to his dispute with Newcastle before sealing his move to Liverpool. "He doesn't have to prove to anyone that he's good enough to play in the Premier League because that's what he's proven already at Newcastle," Slot added.

Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool's captain, has praised Isak as the "complete striker," highlighting his clinical finishing skills and ability to link up play. However, van Dijk also acknowledged that Isak's price tag will "create pressure" for the young striker.

Isak has scored 54 times in 86 Premier League appearances for Newcastle and will look to make an impact at Liverpool. With his debut potentially on the horizon, fans will be eager to see how he performs against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
